Nope! As long as the doula you reach out to has availability, you can hire a doula whenever you decide, no matter how early or how late it might feel.
Yes! A doula is right for anybody who wants one. Doulas provide unconditional, unbiased support. However you choose to give birth, I'm here to support you and ensure you feel respected in all settings.
Doula support will be personalized to fit each person's needs, whether that's medicated or unmedicated.
If you are low-income or in a financial situation where you're unable to pay a doula their standard fee, I encourage you to reach out to them regardless. Many doulas will offer payment plans, low-cost support, or trade services in exchange for their cost.
Doulas provide professional birth and postpartum support. Their goal is to make your birth or postpartum experience the best that it can be, and help you achieve your goals. Doulas also specialize in many other categories such as grief and loss, abortion, and fertility. A doula does not provide medical care or advice, treat or diagnose illnesses, or perform procedures. Doulas may or may not be required to become certified depending on which organization provided their training.
A midwife is a medical professional, and can perform many of the same tasks as doctors in the labor and delivery setting. All midwives must undergo specific education, training, and supervised clinical experience, and complete specific certification requirements.
You are able to have both a midwife and a doula as part of your care team.
